Pledge
To give all our athletes the best opportunity for success in their hockey playing careers with a holistic approach to training.
Information
The National Hockey Institute is a training centre for players from five to professional. Out trainers’ goals are to meet and exceed our athlete’s needs and expectations. We promise to build a relationship with all our athletes to insure their proper growth in becoming the best hockey player that they can be. However, we are not miracle workers. If a player is only able to train with the NHI for one week, we will try to understand the limitations of the player and how we can best train this player in such a short time frame. The NHI believes that players are creatures of habits and will go back to their original issues when they leave our institution. This is why we have designed the Players Video Analysis. This allows all our athletes to download their game videos for a nominal fee and have our technologists view the video and make recommendations to the player and his support group (parents). We will be able to send reminder clips of the player executing a drill correctly and explain the information required to instill this in their exercise routing. We can also add clips of players of similar age and ability doing a drill to help correct a flaw we have noticed. I would ask that you look at the Player Video Analysis button on the bottom of our website.
Points of Contact
Each of our minor hockey athletes will be assigned a team leader who will help insure that all their athletes will meet the requirements of the program. The team leader will be housed in the same complex as the players and will be with all players 24 hours a day. They will help and direct your children to insure their safety and guidance. If you require a biography of your athlete’s team leader, please advise and one will be supplied to you.
We will always treat all comments with courtesy and consideration and trust that is something which will be mutual. Parents please try not to worry if you get an early burst of telephone calls or emails, it is an anxious time. Equally, if you hear nothing, that is probably a good sign but do feel that you can contact Housemasters.
A few points about the NHI
Ridley College is a STRICT no autograph zone. You will be training in close proximity to some of the best players in the world. All our athletes have come here to train, not to sign autographs or take pictures. All out athletes including yourself will be told not to bother other attendees and this will be strictly monitored.
We are not babysitters or entertainers. This is a training facility and the attendees will have a day full of off ice, on ice and video sessions with some of the best trainers in the world.
What do we look for in our pupils?
The NHI believes that we require dedicated, disciplined athletes who are willing to think outside the “box” and embrace a new way of training. Our athletes should develop sound personal values which will be helpful to them throughout life.
We ask all attendees of the NHI to try hard and believe that we are building a long lasting relationship with all our athletes and their support group (the parents) as you go through your training programs. At the NHI, wl insist on strong discipline and work ethic and we ask that they get involved and commit themselves from the very first day. Everyone should be ready to take on new opportunities and bold in trying out the new experiences that the NHI way of training has to offer.
Discipline
Discipline is a way of life. Training to become a better athlete begins and ends with discipline. If any of our athletes display any problems they will be asked to leave. One of our NHI representatives will initiate the communication to the players support system. The NHI believes that attitude and values—kindness, generosity, openness, honesty, hard work, smartness, reliability, and common sense—are the most important features, and these apply across the spectrum and the respect we hold for one another.
The NHI adheres to the idea that all our athletes require self-belief, self-discipline and a sense of personal responsibility.
In Closing
Please understand that we will do everything in our power to help your athlete become the best hockey player and person that he can become.
